Fun Home Decor Trends Interior design

It all started with an Instagram close up of what might be the most beautiful bathroom tiles of all time. Gold-rimmed, iridescent and scalloped, they sat layered in an array of jewel toned jade, emerald and aquamarine, and immediately reminded me of mermaids. Like the unicorn and flamingo trends of recent years, mermaid tiles played perfectly into my Gen Y thirst for all things fun and whimsical. They were beautiful, and, more importantly, so very millennial.

After immediately pinning to Pinterest, my mind was racing with ideas of other fun home decor trends that would appeal specifically to my fellow millennial cohort. Keep scrolling to see what I came up with.

Succulents

One of the surefire signs of adulthood is owning a house plant – and keeping it alive! But between work life and social commitments, that’s sometimes easier said than done for us busy millenials.

Hanging Chair

Generation X might have been all about the hammock, but I predict more millennials will opt for the hanging chair instead.

The best thing about hanging chairs is that they take up far less space than a hammock. This makes them ideal for the tiny apartments most millennials call home! They also look a lot smarter than hammocks, and are far more in keeping with Gen Y’s favorite Scandi-minimalist aesthetic.

Bar Carts

Hitting the club is fun and all, but as we journey further into adulthood, there’s going to be a time when a night in becomes the more appealing weekend activity of choice.

Ombre

From nail art to hair styles, the millennial relationship with all things ombre reads like a series of heart eyed emojis, making ombre home decor a no-brainer for this list.

For the uninitiated, the word ‘ombre’ is derived from the French word ‘ombrer’ which means ‘to shade’. It essentially refers to the gradual transition from one color to another, typically moving in shades from dark to light.
